- <p> Spinach: Popeye the sailor man wouldn't leave home without
- it. But a can of roughage wasn't much use to the muscle-bound
- mariner last week against a foe more powerful than Bluto--a
- skittish distributor. "I was trying to do a comic strip where
- Popeye and Olive Oyl cope with the problems of the modern
- world," says Bobby London, writer and illustrator of the daily
- Popeye strip for the past six years. When London drew two
- comical clergymen who mistakenly believed Popeye's anorexic
- amour was contemplating an abortion, the King Features Syndicate
- was popeyed. It dropped two weeks' worth of Popeye panels--and
- London. The reaction brings to mind another Popeye associate:
- Wimpy.
